Come See the Elk Mountain Home at the 2026 WNC Parade of Homes
Two weekends in October, Western North Carolina opens its doors. The 45th Annual WNC Parade of Homes runs October 17–18 and October 24–25, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. B Three Construction will be there with the Elk Mountain Home — and I will be on site giving personal tours.
The Parade is hosted by the Builders Association of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is a free, self-guided look at new and renovated mountain homes across Asheville, Hendersonville, Brevard, Black Mountain, and nearby communities. Come for ideas. Come if you are thinking about a custom build. Or come simply to walk through a house that was designed to live with the land it sits on.
The house
The Elk Mountain Home is at 502 Elk Mountain Scenic Highway, Asheville, NC 28804. It is an original design by John Rogers, FAIA, who spent fifty years practicing architecture around the country and especially here in Western North Carolina. It was an honor to build one of his projects with our own company.
This is a family home site. The plan brings together sunlight, natural materials, open living, and outdoor rooms so the house feels comfortable and refined rather than showy. Vaulted ceilings and wide, high glazing pull the treetops inside. Horizontal bands wrap the main living areas and carry accent lighting. The back porch looks out over Herron Cove.
A few things I hope you notice when you walk through:
The gable windows. They are the design feature I am most excited about in this home. They look especially strong against the trellises John designed to divide the ceiling space from the living space.
Indoor and outdoor as one room. A covered deck, an open deck off the primary bedroom, and the whole living space join through large sliding glass doors. The view north is both the house and the countryside.
A full-length glass north wall overlooking the porch.
A vaulted timber-frame ceiling, with oak and fir paneled walls, ceilings, and floors.
A galley kitchen with granite countertops and island seating, and a fireplace under those full-height gable windows.
A walk-out basement, ready for future finished bedrooms and living space.
See how sunlight, natural materials, and open planning work together with outdoor living. That is the point of opening the house.
